Start at Sunset Beach
Sunset Beach is the destination to see and be seen. Located adjacent to Crescent Beach on Shelter Island, head east from Mattituck to the north side of the Island. This popular spot is known for its luxurious hotel accommodations, bumping nightlife and ever flowing rosé, anchor up and people watch or catch a tender to the beach and enjoy a gourmet snack and fruity cocktail at the chicest spot on Shelter Island. Be sure to arrive early in the day and drop anchor at the cove to the left of Sunset Beach to avoid swimmers.
Lunch at SALT
Shelter Island is also home to SALT Waterfront Bar & Grill located at Island Boat Yard. Head south from Sunset Beach and hug the island’s curve up to the first cove. Call Island Boat Yard to coordinate dockage (631.749.3333) and head up to the Shipwreck Bar for a SALT Dark & Stormy of Jalapeno Margarita. Next, head into the restaurant for a table and enjoy local oyster and SALT’s Famous Lobster Roll and enjoy live music by local musicians.
Raft Up at The Cove
After enjoying a delicious lunch, it’s time to relax! Head back west towards Robins Island and anchor up at the Cove, just across the channel from New Suffolk by North Race. Swim up to the beach and enjoy your own private oasis or raft up with friends and enjoy the sunshine.
